Licoricia of Winchester

Licoricia was a successful businesswoman and a prominent member of Winchester’s medieval Jewish community.
She was highly educated and became one of the foremost Jewish moneylenders in Winchester, after the murder of her husband David of Oxford, with regular dealings with King Henry III and other nobility in England. In 1277 she was found stabbed to death along with her maid. Nobody was charged or found guilty of their murders.
The sculpture shows Licoricia with her son, Asher.
